Sustainable Agricultural Intensification for Improved Livelihoods, Food Security and Nutrition Project (SAIP) II

番茄社区 the Project

The Smallholder Agriculture and Irrigation Project II (SAIP II), supported by GAFSP, aims to strengthen farmer organizations and enhance agricultural productivity, nutrition, and resilience to climate change across Rwanda. Through institutional capacity building, the project empowers farmers鈥攑articularly youth and women鈥攖o transition from subsistence to market-oriented agriculture. Building on the success of SAIP I, it promotes climate-smart practices such as Integrated Pest and Nutrient Management and Food Quality Management, while fostering innovation and sustainable livelihoods through Farmer Field Schools and 鈥淔arming as a Business鈥 approaches.

To improve water use efficiency and market integration, SAIP II invests in small-scale irrigation technologies, climate-smart equipment, and training to ensure sustainable irrigation management. It provides matching grants and technical assistance to strengthen irrigation schemes, value addition, and market linkages, targeting smallholder farmers, cooperatives, and agribusinesses. By improving access to finance, supporting postharvest handling, and enabling the adoption of energy-efficient and solar-powered irrigation systems, the project seeks to increase productivity, profitability, and food security鈥攂uilding a more resilient and competitive agricultural sector.
